HGUC RX-93

Nu Gundam - Metalic Coating Version

Kit Review

Straight build

Just like the MG, a metallic coating version of the Nu Gundam has been released for the HGUC line as well.
The overall coating has a semi-gloss silver finish reminiscent of an Ex-Plating look, and it's pretty much identical to the MG Nu Gundam coating version. That said, since the plated surface area is relatively smaller, it actually gives a more even coating feel compared to the MG.

Since the HGUC Nu Gundam was already a high-quality kit to begin with, adding the coating on top makes the joints a bit sturdier and the overall look even nicer, bumping up the quality even further. And since the base color is silver, gate marks tend to be a little less noticeable too.

That said, the ¥5,000 price tag does feel a bit steep. Sure, coating versions are typically twice the price of the standard release, but it's hard not to feel like the price has gone up a bit too much relative to what you're actually getting. For that price, you could easily pick up a decent MG kit and still have change left over — so the price is probably going to be a bigger issue than the quality or rarity.

Setting aside the price concern, it's pretty clear that this is a great item that any Nu Gundam or Char's Counterattack fan would find hard to pass up. :-)
