Geara Doga

Kit Review

Straight build
+ panel lining

As if right on schedule, both regular Jagd Doga variants got HGUC releases, and now the Geara Doga has followed suit. That makes six HGUC upgrades of the old Char's Counterattack series kits. ^^

Despite sharing the "~Doga" name, the Geara Doga has a completely different design from the Jagd Doga, so this is a 100% all-new kit with no shared runners or parts. The mock-up proportions shown in the pre-release announcement looked a bit off, which drew a lot of complaints early on — whether they took that feedback on board or it was always meant to look this way, who knows, but either way the final product came out with solid, well-balanced HGUC proportions.

The overall molded color is a deep green, and it came out looking great without being too garish. Like recent HGUC kits, the joint strength is excellent, making it a very satisfying kit to pose around. That said, articulation doesn't seem to have been a big priority — it hovers around the 90-degree bend range, which is pretty average, so pulling off really dynamic action poses is tough. On the plus side, the shoulder forward-slide joint is much more flexible than on the Jagd Doga, so arm-based poses turn out nicely.

The Sturm Fausts inside the shield on the left arm are a real highlight, though one minor gripe is that they don't hold in very securely — one or two tend to pop out repeatedly. If you angle them carefully and twist them in they'll stay put, but it's still a bit of a worry. The shield attachment also feels a little loose — it doesn't feel like it's gripping the arm tightly enough.

Overall this kit gives off a strong "solid but unremarkable" vibe, so there's not a whole lot to say beyond the photos. It's not a kit that was designed with obsessive attention to detail, but it's clearly in a different league from the old kit. If you're a fan of Char's Counterattack and have been eyeing the Geara Doga, it's a very easy recommendation — a well-made kit. :-)
