Qubeley Mk-II (Metalic Blue) ~ Extra Finish Version

Kit Review

Straight build

This Metallic Blue version is the second of three Qubeley Extra Finish versions released as commemorative editions for the 2000 Rajikon Show. There was already an HGUC Qubeley Mk-II Blue version out before, and you can think of this as the plated parts concept version of that.

Compared to the White Pearl version, the coating effect on this Metallic Blue Extra Finish version is noticeably more striking. Unlike the White Pearl version where you'd have to look closely to even tell it's a plated version due to the thin coating, this Metallic Blue version makes it immediately obvious that the surface has been finished.

The finish quality is excellent — the color is distributed very evenly even across wide surfaces like the shoulders. From the subtle metallic sheen to the deep, rich color of the plated surface, this ranks among the best quality coating versions out there. The base kit is of course the same as the regular Qubeley, and as is typical with plated versions, the joints are stiffer, which actually makes them feel more solid — a nice bonus.

With officially released MG plated versions, there are cases where a soft black plastic material is used — either to enhance the depth of the coating, or (presumably) because it's a material that takes the coating better. This Qubeley Metallic Blue Extra Finish version follows the same approach. With the White Pearl version, since the color itself is white, it looks like the coating was just applied directly over white plastic — but in the case of the Metallic Blue, since the saturation is very low, having that dark base plastic underneath actually makes it look even more premium.

Either way, as an Extra Finish plated version, the quality is excellent. The biggest downside is that it's a limited release with no reprint, so it's a bit hard to track down.. ^^;;
