Qubeley Mk-II (Metalic Red) ~ Extra Finish Version

Kit Review

Straight build

The third Qubeley Extra Finish version is the Red Metallic version. Among the Qubeley Extra Finish trio, this one is the most luxurious kit — additional plated parts were added through runner separation. The circular parts on the shoulders and the back of the legs are now plated, unlike the previous Qubeley Extra Finish versions, making it an even more dazzling plated kit.

In the Red Metallic version, all the parts that previously came in pink plating have been changed to gold plating, and the shoulders and back legs are included in that gold plating as well. The color combination follows the same concept as the MG Ple Two custom's coloring.

It has the same metallic pearl color feel as the Blue Metallic version, though the Blue Metallic does give a deeper impression. That's probably just the nature of high-saturation red as a color — but even so, the Red Metallic version feels more flashy and vibrant thanks to the extra plated parts.

Just like the previous Qubeley Extra Finish versions, the joints are much stiffer than the normal version, as you'd expect from a plated kit. The shoulders in particular are noticeably stiff across the board — stiff enough that rotating the arms takes quite a bit of effort..;; On the flip side, the legs feel sturdier than the normal version, and the stability when standing it up is noticeably better.

These three plated Qubeleys, released as commemorative items for the 2000 Lajicon Show, hold a special place as the very first Extra Finish versions. They're becoming rare items these days, but either way, I think they were great kits that let you build a premium-looking painted kit relatively easily and without breaking the bank. :-)
