Gundam Mk-II ~ Extra Finish Version

Kit Review

Straight build

After four Extra Finish versions released to commemorate the 2000 Rajikon Show, a new Extra Finish version has appeared five years later. The first one out of the gate, released to celebrate the new Zeta theatrical film, is the HGUC Gundam Mk-II.

First off, the Extra Finish coating quality is excellent, and the blue and yellow sections actually look better than the silver parts. That said, due to the nature of Extra Finish coatings — and the fact that the HGUC Gundam Mk-II tends to have slightly thicker gates — the gate marks are large and quite noticeable. It's probably worth at least touching them up with a Gundam Marker if you can. On top of that, while it's less of an issue on the normal version, the seam lines on the legs seem a bit more prominent on the plated version.

The HGUC Gundam Mk-II already has pretty solid joints to begin with, but with the plated version, the extra thickness from the coating makes the joints even stiffer and more secure. Whatever pose you put it in, it holds really stably. :-)

Since the original kit itself is already highly satisfying, slapping on the Extra Finish coating just makes it feel even better. The price being double compared to the normal version is a *tiny* bit of a sting, but if you're a Gundam Mk-II fan, this is a clean, great-looking plated version that's well worth recommending. :-)
