Kit Review
Straight build + Seals
Straight build + Seals
GFreD has been released as the 8th HG kit from "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury." Being the second unit of the Zyclops, the overall design HG Zyclopsis quite similar, though the head, shoulders, and backpack verniers have been redesigned, and the accessory lineup has changed slightly.
The biggest change compared to the Zyclops is the molded color — the color scheme has been blatantly switched to something very Eva-esque. The new color combination also meant several new sculpts were applied to the legs, though the design itself is nearly identical. On top of that, the battle axe is gone, replaced by a part that mounts the beam rifle on the rear, and the S-bit on the head can now be detached for separate display. Just like the Zyclops, separate head parts are included for both the deployed and non-deployed states.
Since the core structure is the same, the articulation and build experience are identical to the HG Zyclops — smooth yet stable joint strength, and just like before, there are plenty of small parts, much like an RG. The large number of tiny seals and stickers also raises the build difficulty just as before, which makes this a tough recommendation for anyone who struggles with small parts or for beginners.
Overall, GFreD's flashy in-show color scheme has been faithfully reproduced at a great level of quality. If you're a fan of small, detailed kits like RGs, this one comes highly recommended! :-)
