A Gundam has finally made its way into the HG Origin lineup, with the release of the HG Gundam Local Type — the predecessor to the Gundam Local Type. The overall silhouette, shoulder design, shield, and rifle all scream Local Type family Gundam. That said, it comes with updated proportions, making it slimmer compared to the existing HGUC Gundam Local Type.
The overall composition and build quality feel very similar to the HGUC RX-78 Revive version — the proportions and articulation characteristics are practically identical — yet the price is double, which sparked value-for-money debates right from launch. The Gundam Local Type does have a few more parts, but not enough to justify the difference between ¥1,000 and ¥2,000. It's honestly puzzling why it ended up priced at ¥2,000 out of nowhere... just quietly riding the inflation wave?
That said, the overall proportions and sculpt are excellent, the joints are smooth yet sturdy, and the articulation is top-notch — there's really nothing to complain about in terms of quality. It's also a nice touch that the beam saber handle can be mounted on either the forearm or the shield, and just like the HG Origin Zaku, the hip joint articulation gimmick lets you pull off a natural kneeling pose.
All in all, this kit is significant simply for being yet another HG Gundam with a fresh new design. The seemingly out-of-nowhere price hike leaves a bit of a sour taste, but the quality itself is more than worthy of praise. :-)
