Comparison with the normal version
The Operation V Set — one of the key episodes of the One Year War — has been released as an HGUC kit. This set is essentially a bundle of the existing HGUC RX-78, Guncannon, and Guntank all in one, and the price of ¥1000+¥800+¥800 = ¥2,600 is exactly the sum of the three individual kits.
There are three main differences from the existing normal version kits.
1. Molded colors changed 100%
- For the RX-78, the overall colors have been made more vibrant. The joints are darker.
- The Guncannon's red is deeper, the white is brighter, and the joints are slightly darker.
- The Guntank, like the RX-78, is more vibrant overall. The blue parts in particular got a nice pop to them and the color looks really great.
2. Exclusive seal sheet added
- A densely packed HGUC-exclusive seal sheet is included as a bonus. (No extra charge)
3. Manual that reads like a reference book
- A thick special manual packed with photos and background information.
Those are the changes, and the molded color update is clearly the biggest one. The overall shift to brighter, more vivid molded colors gives it a slightly more premium feel compared to the normal versions. The RX-78 and Guntank molded colors in particular — very good! As for the Operation V exclusive seals, more than half of them will be left over, so you could always stick them on other kits.
The build quality is essentially the same as the normal versions, so if you already own the individual normal version kits, there's a bit of overlap and I'd hesitate to recommend it outright. But if you're looking to pick up all three of these guys for the first time, I'd strongly recommend the Operation V Set over the normal versions. Same price, slightly improved molded colors, and you get the bonus seals on top of that :-)
