HGUC MSN-02

Zeong Pink Version + RX-78-3 Gundam G-3

Kit Review

Straight build

This is the limited edition combo set from the 2002 C3 show — famously known as "His Show" — featuring HGUC color variants of the First and the Zeong. You get the First in a gray G3 color scheme and the Zeong in Char's signature pink, and both have pretty nice molded colors. Unlike the Red Version Zeong from the Bandai Museum exclusive, the pink Zeong in this set captures the feel of the original Char color scheme. Since these are simply molded color changes, check the individual kit reviews for the basic build quality of each.

Between the two, the First actually feels more fresh and interesting — the molded colors are noticeably brighter than the MG, giving it a really soft and clean look. The standout touch is that they went ahead and included a separately molded system injection runner part just to achieve proper color separation on the shield's yellow cross — something even the MG gave up on. That's a rare treat!

On the normal version, the chest ducts, the rectangular sections on the lower body, and the shield cross all come molded in yellow together. But on the G3 color scheme, only the shield cross is yellow while everything else is in shades of gray — which makes the color separation a bit awkward. The MG just skipped it and slapped a sticker on, but true to its limited edition status, this kit includes the kind of extra service you just can't expect from a mass-market release.

Just a heads-up — the Zeong's molded color came out a bit different from the real thing in the photos above. Char's pink ended up looking way too dark T_T. In person it's brighter, more pink, and has a softer look to it. I was testing out a new camera and trying all kinds of settings, but couldn't find the right one to capture the color properly, so I just went with it — sorry about that ^^;

Anyway, both kits have their own fun color schemes, and the sheer amount of content makes this a limited edition worth picking up. :-)
