HGUC RX-78-2

Gundam ~ Gloss Injection Version

Kit Review

Straight build

This is the RX-78 First Gundam Gloss Injection Version, one of the limited editions released at the 2006 Gundam Expo. Gloss injection refers to a glossy finish style where the surface of the molded parts is made extra smooth, giving the whole kit a sleek, shiny look. Same concept as what was applied to the MG Gryphone and Qubeley Mk.II.

It doesn't stand out much in photos, but in person it does look noticeably smoother. That said, compared to other plated versions it feels a little less distinctive — though it does have a slightly more premium feel compared to the standard release.

With gloss injection molding, the material tends to be harder overall, which makes cleaning up gate marks a bit more of a pain, and they do tend to leave more of a mark. So trimming with just a knife is a bit tricky — you'll really want to clean things up properly with a file or sandpaper.

The basic kit characteristics are completely identical to the normal version — it's really just the surface finish that's been given a glossy treatment, so there isn't much more to say about it.

Personally, it feels like it has a bit less appeal compared to the coated or clear versions... but as a limited edition release, I think the kit has its own meaning just for that. ^^;
