Mcgillis's Schwalbe Graze

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

The Schwalbe Graze - Mcgillis's Custom has been released as a variation of the HG Graze, which is essentially the Zaku of Iron-Blooded Orphans. At the time of writing this review, only 4 episodes of the anime had aired — Mcgillis does appear as a character, but he's only hinted at being a rival to the protagonist Mika (kind of like Char vs. Amuro), and there's been no combat yet, so this MS hasn't actually shown up in action in the show.

It feels like an upgraded, higher-end(?) version of the Graze — the head, shoulders, forearms, skirt, thighs, and backpack designs have all been changed, and the claw weapon has been added, so quite a lot is different. On top of that, the color scheme has shifted from green to blue, which makes the overall silhouette look like a whole new unit rather than just a Graze variant.

Since it reuses the existing Graze frame runners, the full-body frame is identical, and as a result the basic characteristics like articulation and joint strength are pretty much the same too. That said, the larger shoulders, backpack, and side skirts make it feel a bit more awkward to pose compared to the normal Graze — it's just a little harder to get good poses out of it.

The newly added claw can be recreated both in its mounted form on the left forearm and in its deployed form using the wire parts, and this claw-equipped forearm can also be attached to the HG Barbatos. As for other weapons, just like the normal Graze, a rifle and battle axe are included.

The fact that it has a noticeably different feel compared to the standard unit for a variation kit is definitely a plus, but in terms of overall quality, the normal Graze feels like the more solid, well-balanced kit. It's probably because there's just more stuff hanging off this one, but either way the base kit quality is good enough that it's hard to have any major complaints. If anything, I'd say sales will probably depend on how Mcgillis's character — who comes across as polished and princely, very much like a Char-type — develops going forward. :-)
