Kit Review

Gundam Vidar, which appears in the second season of Iron-Blooded Orphans, has arrived as an HG kit. Since it's basically built on the Gundam Barbatos frame, it feels like a kit where only the outer armor has been renewed. Compared to Barbatos's more rounded design, the angular armor and blue color scheme are the defining features here.
Since the overall construction is the same, the kit's quality feels pretty much on par with the HG Gundam Barbatos/Lupus. The joints are flexible and joint strength is about average, but compared to Barbatos, the side skirts are larger and the backpack structure has grown bigger too, so getting it to hold a solid pose feels just a touch trickier. When you try to move it around, parts tend to catch on things or fall off here and there (especially the backpack binders...), and it's definitely the kind of kit that takes a fair bit of fiddling to get into a decent pose.
The weapons include a rifle, two handguns, and a Burst Saber. The Burst Saber's handle is stored in the side skirt, and when you need it you pull it out and plug in the separate saber parts to use it. A set of bent-wrist hands is also included for the Burst Saber, allowing for a straight thrusting pose. Personally, I think the coolest pose is holding a handgun in each hand and firing sideways — very old-school Hong Kong action movie style. ^^
This kit is noteworthy as a new Gundam built on a familiar frame but with a completely different design and color scheme, and it's worth recommending to anyone who's gotten a bit tired of Barbatos's rounded look. How well it sells will probably depend on how much the character gets to shine in the show, but overall it's a solid, well-rounded kit — if the style appeals to you, it's definitely worth picking up. :-)
