Helmwige Reinkar

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

The Helmwige Reinkar — a rhino-like escort mobile suit from Iron-Blooded Orphans — has been released as an HG kit. The frame reuses the Valkyrie Frame runners from the HG Grimgerde, which actually ties into the in-universe lore too: the Helmwige Reinkar is essentially a reconstruction of a mobile suit called the Helmwige — which had been destroyed in the past — built on the Grimgerde's Valkyrie Frame. And just like Grimgerde, the name "Helmwige" is also the name of one of the Valkyries from Norse mythology.

Even though it shares a frame with the Grimgerde, this kit has a very different design concept. The chunky body, broad shoulders, and horns give it a really striking presence. The standout feature is definitely the massive weapon — the Valkyria Buster Sword, which is about 30 cm long. The grip can be extended from both ends, and the front and rear sections can be separated to use as two individual weapons. There's also a dedicated mounting part that slots between the front skirt panels to store the Valkyria Buster Sword, and the sole parts can be swapped out for expanded versions. On top of that, you can recreate a charging head mode by removing the chest armor, attaching it in front of the face, and folding the head antenna forward.

Basic articulation is quite good, and joint strength is decent enough, though the weapon is so heavy that it does limit posing options a bit. Holding the Valkyria Buster Sword with one hand is tough, but two hands can manage it to some extent — you just need to get the hand placement and stance right to lock it in. That said, the weapon is so massive that even a simple pose ends up looking pretty dynamic and powerful.

Even among the diverse and distinctive Iron-Blooded Orphans lineup, this is a pretty unique design — it really does look like a charging bull. Build quality is clean and polished as you'd expect from a modern HG, so regardless of how you feel about the anime, if the design catches your eye this is definitely a fun and characterful kit worth picking up :-)
