The 35th IBO HG release is Gundam Kimaris Vidar — a kit whose very name sounds like a mashup machine. As you can see, it feels more like an upgraded Kimaris than anything related to Vidar, and the even more massive drill lance along with the two freely poseable shields make quite an impression.
First off, it uses Gundam Frame No. 2, so the inner frame has a similar feel to Barbatos. The body is on the chunky side, so articulation feels pretty average. On top of that, the unique high-heel-style foot structure, the oversized skirt armor, and the large weapons it's carrying all make it tricky to get a clean pose. That said, it's a relief that the dedicated hand part for gripping the drill lance holds on firmly. With a weapon this big you'd normally worry about the grip giving out, but they've handled that problem well here.
The shields mounted on the back via multi-jointed sub-arms can be positioned in quite a variety of angles and configurations, and the joint strength on those sub-arms is excellent, so whatever position you put them in they stay put. The shields can also be reconfigured with the KEP rounds popped out and the length extended, letting you combine them with the drill lance for a firing pose. In this configuration the shields also double as support for the drill lance, which is actually what makes it possible to pull off that pose you see in the review photos above — holding that big, heavy drill lance up high.
There's also a small drill part included that plugs into the knee to recreate the unique drill knee pose, and overall this is just a kit bursting with personality in all sorts of ways.
Sure, it takes a bit of fiddling to get a good pose going, but the visuals are striking and the stability is better than you'd expect, making it a genuinely fun kit to play around with. It's clearly a step up in quality from the HG Gundam Kimaris, so if you're an Iron-Blooded Orphans fan, you should be able to enjoy this one without any major complaints. :-)
