Gundam Asmoday

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Gundam Asmoday from Iron-Blooded Orphans: Urdr-Hunt has been released as an HG kit. It uses the Barbatos frame as its base, with all the exterior armor parts and weapons done in all-new sculpts. Overall, it has a more solid and stable look compared to previous kits in the line.

First off, the 100% new exterior parts give it a really fresh feel. The design concept fits right in with Iron-Blooded Orphans, and the fluorescent yellow-green accents along with plenty of seals add nice detail touches all over. The armor structure on the limbs does limit articulation to around 90 degrees, which can feel a bit restrictive, but since it uses the Barbatos frame, the shoulders and ankles are flexible enough to make posing pretty easy. The feet are wide and the ankles have a good range of motion, giving it ground contact stability that's in a completely different league from earlier kits.

Weapons include the Gigantic Jabelin, Gran Tonfa, and a rifle. The Gigantic Jabelin can be switched to wire parts to recreate the launch state. The Gran Tonfa on the forearms can have their tips swapped out for extended versions, and can be rotated to face forward or backward as needed. The rifle can also be stored on the rear skirt, and you can reconfigure the feet to recreate a leg claw attack pose.

Overall this is a high-quality HG kit, and it's noticeably more solid and stable than the HG Gundam Barbatos, which always felt a bit flimsy. It's easy to pose on flat surfaces and the joint strength is good, making it a very enjoyable kit to handle. Either way, stability-wise it's top-tier among the Iron-Blooded Orphans HG lineup, so if you like the look of it, don't hesitate — just go for it. :-)
