598's Monkey Rodi / Monkey Crab Rodi

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

It's been a while since we've had an Iron-Blooded Orphans kit — the Monkey Rodi (Unit 598) / Monkey Crab Rodi from Urdr-Hunt has been released as an HG. It's based on the existing HG Man Rodi, with three new runners added to the mix. Aside from the torso parts and some of the inner frame, most of the parts are newly tooled.

The look is fresh, but since the underlying frame is similar, the overall build quality feels on par with the original kit. Being based on a 2015 kit, the joints move more smoothly compared to the stiffer polycap-less HGs we've been seeing lately. On the flip side, it doesn't quite have that modern kit feel — it's very much like building an HG that's about ten years old. That said, it's not loose or anything; articulation and joint strength are both perfectly decent.

As the kit name suggests, you can swap the arms to switch between the Monkey Rodi (Unit 598) and the Monkey Crab Rodi configurations. The Monkey Rodi comes with a 100mm submachine gun, a crowbar, and a shield, while the crab arms feature four articulated claws. On top of that, the grenades stored inside the side skirts are also reproduced, and a dedicated grenade-holding hand is included so you can pose it holding one.

All in all, it's a solid, no-frills HG kit — whether you enjoy it will probably come down to personal taste on the design more than anything else. If you're an Iron-Blooded Orphans fan or just dig the look, it's a fun, low-stress build. :-)
