Kotobukiya Amored Core

CR-090U3 Dual Face Ver.

Kit Review

Straight build

The mechs in the game Armored Core are fundamentally mix-and-match designs. Since you can swap and reconfigure the head, torso, arms, legs, weapons, and more, you can essentially create an enormous number of variations. This kit is a variation based on the Crest core body, and it's called the CR-090U3 Dual Face Ver.

Compared to the original Crest, only the torso is shared — the head, arms, legs, and weapons have all been completely replaced, meaning roughly 80% of the design has changed, making it a variation that's practically a new design in its own right. Overall it's more aggressive and bulkier than the original Crest, which gives it an even more stylish feel design-wise.

The Crest normal version is one of the most well-rounded kits among the Armored Core lineup in terms of joint strength and parts layout, but the Dual Face feels a bit less secure in the joint department by comparison. The larger size adds overall weight, and while the joints were perfectly fine on the normal version, they feel just a little less tight on the Dual Face.

That said, it's not like they're seriously loose or anything — it's just a mild disappointment compared to the Crest, which had really solid joint strength. Honestly, since this is practically a brand-new kit, it might not even be fair to compare it 1:1 with the normal version, but since they share the same name and a similar color scheme, the comparison is kind of unavoidable. ^^;

On the flip side, thanks to its sharp, powerful, and stylish design, it makes for a far more impressive display piece than the Crest normal version. I think it's one of the coolest designs in the entire Armored Core series, and if the style appeals to you, I think you'll find it more than satisfying with no major complaints. :-)
