Kotobukiya Amored Core

C04-ATLAS Fox Eye Ver.

Kit Review

Straight build

The ninth Armored Core kit to be released is the C04-ATLAS Fox Eye Ver. As you can see, much like the Cronus Vixen version, it's a bright white kit — and in terms of body style, it's got that same hefty build as Selena.

First off, the overall bright color scheme gives it a noticeably different feel compared to previous Armored Core kits. True to Kotobukiya's style, the color separation is well done, so even a straight build delivers a pretty vibrant and eye-catching color scheme. The white molded color also feels a step up from the Cronus Vixen. That said, the blue molded colors do feel a bit on the cheap side by comparison.

Selena, the other heavyset kit, had a lot of joint strength issues — probably because it was an early release — but the Atlas is much better in that department. It can hold the large laser rifle horizontally without any trouble, and it stays stable in pretty much any pose. Overall articulation is good for its size, though ankle articulation is a bit lacking, which does limit posing options somewhat.

More than anything, the assembly feels noticeably smoother compared to other Armored Core kits. There are still plenty of small parts, but it never gets frustratingly fiddly — the whole thing just goes together pretty easily.

Either way, its unique styling makes it stand out even among Armored Core kits, and with overall quality being solid, this is a good kit that should deliver a very satisfying build. :-)
