The CR-C98E2 Crest Assault type has been released as part of the original Armored Core lineup rather than the Next line. The torso comes from the Nine Ball version, the arms from the standard Crest version, and the weapons are a combination of the Atlas Fox Eye version and Uranus. Only the head and lower body are new parts, but since the molded colors differ from the other Crests, the overall look feels quite fresh.
The articulation and joint strength are on par with the other Crest kits, but the polycap quality is better than before, so the overall stability of the kit is excellent. You can pull off action poses that make full use of the standard range of motion without any loose joints, and the ankles are fairly flexible, making it easy to get poses just right. The assembly feel itself is similar to the early Crest kits, so there's no major improvement or change — it's still a kit with small fiddly parts and iffy snap-fit connections that'll need some glue.
In the end, this is yet another variation in the Crest series — a kit that shows plenty of personality along with solid, no-fuss buildability and quality. Being too safe might be its one drawback, but at least there are no major flaws, so if you're interested, this is definitely a kit you can enjoy without any big complaints. :-)
