Kit Review
Straight build
Straight build
The ADFX-10F from the game Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has been released as a Kotobukiya plastic model kit. Even though it's the same 1/144 scale, it's come out noticeably larger than the previous X-02S — and the price reflects that too, coming in at ¥6000.
First off, there are no pre-painted parts, and the whole thing comes molded in a single light gray color, so the straight build look is pretty bland. The molded detail is actually fairly dense, but the monochrome color scheme makes it hard to appreciate in photos — and honestly, it's not that easy to see in person either..
The key gimmick — separating into the nose unit and wing unit — is fully reproduced, and two clear stands of different sizes are included so you can display each section in the air. Beyond that, the landing gear and the open/closed missile bay states are handled with swappable parts just like the previous kits, while the upper and lower air brakes on the rear engine nozzles are actually movable this time.
All in all, the snap-fit assembly feels solid and the parts breakdown is well thought out — but it's a tough kit to recommend if you're just planning a straight build. It's also hard to overlook that a kit fitting in a box smaller than a typical HG is asking ¥6000. This one's really best suited for painters who are big fans of Ace Combat 7. :-)
