Kotobukiya Amored Core V

Hanged Man Rematch Ver.

Kit Review

Straight build

The third kit in the Armored Core V lineup is the Hanged Man Rematch Ver., sporting that seriously chunky design. As you can see, it's an incredibly bulky machine loaded with stuff hanging all over it. Much like Agni, the coloring is monotone and heavy, so the color scheme is a bit blah — but the kit is absolutely packed with tiny, intricate details tucked into every corner of the body.

Just like Agni, this is a classic Armored Core setup where the kit is small but the parts count is enormous. That's because there are far more individual small pieces than single-piece molded parts, which is how all that fine detail gets preserved. As a result, assembly takes longer than your average MG Gunpla — easily. On top of that, quite a few parts still don't snap together very securely, so you'll find yourself relying on glue for a good number of them.

The chunky design means articulation isn't all that great, but thanks to the bold and flashy design, even just raising an arm slightly gives you a surprisingly weighty-looking pose. That said, as is typical with Armored Core kits, there are parts that pop off easily here and there, so getting a pose set up isn't exactly a breeze.

Three stylish main weapons are included, and the kit offers a variety of alternate assembly configurations. In particular, the lower body can be built as either the standard KT-3N4 type or the more streamlined KT-3N2/BARGUZIN type. On top of that, the shoulder hatches are recreated in open mode via cover swaps, and the kit also includes an expanded shield form, joint parts for Overed Weapon mounting, and a dedicated head for that configuration.

The fact that it covers so many in-lore gimmicks through swappable parts — even if they're all swap-out style — is definitely worth giving credit for. The size feels a little small for the price, and getting a pose set up requires fiddling with a lot of different spots, which can get tedious. But the level of precision relative to its size is enough to make even RG Gunpla cry, so in terms of hardcore assembly and detail, there's plenty here to get mecha modelers excited.

Anyway, if you're an Armored Core V fan, this is pretty much a must-grab — but beyond that, it's also a niche item worth recommending to anyone who enjoys highly detailed mecha model kits. :-)
