Kotobukiya Border Break

Cougar type-S

Kit Review

Straight build

This is the third variation of the Cougar type, released as the Class S color version of the type-S. The basic body construction is nearly identical to the existing Cougar kits — just think of it as a version with changed molded colors and weapons.

Since the Cougar itself was already a pretty solid kit, this one also delivers excellent articulation and joint strength, clean detail, and sharp edges. That said, as you can see from the manual, the original design colors are incredibly complex, so painting is pretty much mandatory if you want to represent it properly. The white areas in the design can be covered with wet decals, but since the orange sections also need to be painted, it's essentially a full-paint kit. Well... the olive drab molded color is decent quality in its own right, so it still looks pretty good even as a straight build. ^^;

The newly added electromagnetic acceleration cannon and SP Penetrator both feature length-changing gimmicks that are all swap/detach style, but they're implemented in multiple stages to stay faithful to the design specs. The type-S weapons are quite stylish, which gives it a bit more of a standout look compared to the other Cougar series kits.

It's a variation kit, but it has plenty of personality of its own — a great kit you can enjoy without worrying about quality. :-)
