Kotobukiya has released Great Baangaan from the Brave Saga Baangaan series as part of their Brave Series lineup. The actual contents include both Baangaan and the expansion parts for Great Baangaan. Thanks to that, the parts count is quite substantial, resulting in a kit with a massive number of runners and a hefty price tag of ¥14,000.

The basic skeleton and some of the outer armor parts reuse runners from previous entries in the Brave Series, so the articulation characteristics are very similar to earlier kits. It delivers excellent articulation and joint strength, including a hip slide gimmick, which means stable standing poses and dynamic posing are very much achievable despite the large size. The molded colors in particular come out with a nice matte, premium feel across the board — it honestly feels a step above Bandai kits in that regard. The color separation is also meticulous, as you'd expect from a Kotobukiya kit, making this one of those kits where the straight build alone is really satisfying.

The transformation from Baangaan to Great Baangaan is implemented in a fairly straightforward way, and with those massive wings the overall width easily exceeds 30cm. It makes for an incredibly imposing and impressive display, but it does eat up way more shelf space than you might expect. As for weapons, the Dual Lancer is included and can be combined into the Twin Blade, and a whopping total of 20 hands are provided — 10 each for Baangaan and Great Baangaan. One downside is that the side skirts and the cannons on top of the shoulders tend to pop off during posing, but as long as you're mindful of that, there aren't really any other fit issues.

All in all, this is top-tier quality for a Brave robot plastic model kit. It trades transformation for excellent proportions and articulation, and comes armed with molded colors and color separation that surpass Bandai. That said, the ¥14,000 price tag is a pretty significant hurdle. But if you're a fan of the Brave Series and loved Baangaan, it's probably a price and quality level you can live with. :-)
