Kotobukiya Brave Police

J-Decker

Kit Review

Straight build

J-Decker, from the anime Brave Police J-Decker, has been released as a Kotobukiya plastic model kit. In Korea it's well known as Robot Police K-Cops, and I'm sure quite a few people have fond memories of this one.

The basic build is similar to Great Exkaiser, another Brave series kit, and thanks to extensive color separation it comes pretty close to the official colors even as a straight build. The plastic feel and assembly experience are noticeably smoother than typical Kotobukiya kits — I'd say it gets about 80% of the way to a Bandai Gunpla feel. That said, the molded colors still look a little cheap, and there's not much you can do about that.

Limb articulation is above average, and the shoulders, waist, and ankles are all quite flexible, making it easy to get into poses. Joint strength is decent too, so there's barely any stress about poses not holding. For weapons you get the J-Buster with two swappable barrel styles and the Electric Baton, plus six well-proportioned hand types are included. On top of that, just like Great Exkaiser, you can do a collab with a Cross Frame Girl.

Either way, this is a great kit that once again shows just how far Kotobukiya's quality has come. It does come in at a steep ¥7,200 due to separate licensing costs, but for anyone with fond memories of K-Cops, it'd make a wonderful addition to the collection. :-)
