As the fourth kit in the Break Blade lineup, the Fafnir Baldr's Golem — a variation of the Fafnir — has been released. This kit actually comes with parts to build it in two configurations, Baldr or Tōru, but since the default molded color is green for the Baldr version, painting is a must if you want to represent the yellow Tōru version.
Basically this kit only changes the head, weapons, and forearm armor compared to the original Fafnir, so all the structural characteristics are identical to the normal version. Decent articulation, solid joint strength, and good snap-fit properties — it's a thoroughly no-nonsense Kotobukiya kit. Since the lineup is based on a shared frame, the articulation at least meets a solid baseline quality.
As you'd expect from a Kotobukiya kit, the proportions are quite good, and while the articulation isn't exceptional, it still pulls off dynamic action poses reasonably well. The extra forearm armor that wasn't on the normal version makes the shield attachment a bit iffy, which is a slight letdown — though if you get the angle just right it does stay put well enough. The swappable weapon storage mount on the back is also reproduced the same way as the normal version.
Overall this isn't a kit with any major flaws, and it's solid enough quality that Break Blade fans will definitely enjoy it. Even if you're just drawn to the design, it's a fun build — though as always with mecha from anime, how much you get out of it really does depend a lot on how invested you are in the source material. :-)
