Kotobukiya Yotsubato!

danboard mini

Kit Review

Straight build

Following the previously released Kotobukiya danboard mini plastic model, an even smaller danboard mini has now been released. It's a compact little kit roughly SD-sized, and when you open the thin, small box, you'll find almost all the parts packed onto just a single runner — a really simple kit. ^^

Small as it is, the overall build is essentially the same as the larger danboard mini plastic model. The swappable eye gimmick is there, and the range of motion on the arms and legs is nearly identical, so the poses you can pull off are pretty much the same too. In short, it feels like just a scaled-down version of the bigger kit.

That said, being smaller makes it feel even cuter and easier to handle, which actually gives it a better overall feel in hand. The articulation is about the same, but maybe because of the smaller size, the joint strength feels a bit more stable too. On top of that, the larger danboard mini ran ¥2800 and felt a bit pricey for what you got — the mini version comes in at ¥880, so the value for money feels much better.

All in all, as a danboard mini kit you can enjoy in a small and lightweight way, if you're interested in danboard mini plastic models, I'd recommend starting with this mini version over the larger one — it's just a lot more approachable. :-)
