Death Saurer

Kit Review

Straight build

The ninth entry in the cute D-Style lineup follows in its predecessor's footsteps with the release of the Zoids Death Saurer. The HMM Zoids lineup already has the similar Genosaurer, so it's a little puzzling why the Death Saurer got the nod instead — a bit of a head-scratcher, honestly.

True to the D-Style aesthetic, this Death Saurer sports a big head, stubby body, and short little limbs — but unlike the Blade Liger, which felt like a cute little kitten, this one comes across as more ferociously cute (??). The tiny, adorable proportions are charming, but the face and overall shape are a bit on the menacing side... That said, the squat, chibi-style build that's so characteristic of SD-class kits is still enough to put a big grin on your face.

The arms and legs only move a little side to side and rotate, but like the Blade Liger, the neck joint is surprisingly flexible, so you can actually pull off quite a variety of poses. The particle cannon inside the open mouth is especially well-reproduced and makes for a great focal point.

That said, the ball joint connections on the arms and legs are a bit flimsy — during posing, the limbs tend to pop off easily, and the polycap tolerances are a bit loose, causing them to wobble around. It's totally fine when you just leave it standing still, but the moment you try anything even slightly dynamic, they just go *pop* and fall right off. Since this kit isn't really about articulation — the small, cute proportions are the whole point — it's not a huge deal. ^^;

If the D-Style line, which has been expanding across all sorts of subjects, continues to venture into Zoids territory, there could be a virtually endless stream of kits to look forward to... Along with the Blade Liger, this is a fun little kit that'll have you eagerly waiting to see what D-Style Zoids comes out with next. :-)
