Kit Review
Straight build
Straight build
The ARX-7 Arbalest has arrived in D-Style from Full Metal Panic. Aoshima has released the Guncannon — the Gunzback in several versions before, but in D-Style, the Arbalest came out first.
First off, true to D-Style form, it pulls off a pretty impressive proportion with a minimal parts count, and just like previous releases, a straight build already gets you a decent level of color representation thanks to some well-placed painted details and smart parts separation. The limitations are also similar — some of the weapons have hollow backs, and the legs are solid pieces so articulation has its limits — but overall, it comes together as a nicely solid-looking kit.
As for weapons, you get a shotgun and two knives in different sizes (anti-tank dagger and mono-molecular cutter), and both the shotgun and mono-molecular cutter can be mounted on the rear end along with their sheaths. On top of that, the Arbalest's signature anti-tank dagger-in-the-mouth pose is also recreated via parts swapping, so despite being a small kit, the overall package and level of recreation feels like more than you'd expect.
It's obviously a must-have for Full Metal Panic fans, but it also seems like a solid, easygoing D-Style kit that anyone who just likes the design can have a good time building. :-)
