Rayleonard 04-Alicia Unsung

Kit Review

Straight build

The latest addition to the D-Style Armored Core series, the Aliya Unsung has been released. It's a unit with distinctive reverse-joint legs and a heavy, weighty color scheme that really gives it some serious presence — and at its core, it's also a variation kit of the previously released D-Style Aliya Supremes.

The Unsung shares the same head, torso, and arms as the Supremes, with only the legs and weapons changed — and perhaps because of the darker color scheme, the differences don't stand out all that much. In the 1/72 version, the Unsung's reverse-joint legs gave it a completely different feel, but in the D-Style format where the legs have to be stubby by nature, that sense of individuality gets a bit lost...

The overall build and feel is similar to previous D-Style kits, and it can be assembled snap-tight, though there are a few iffy spots so a bit of glue is recommended. There are joints at the elbows and knees, but with so much stuff hanging off the kit, the range of articulation isn't all that great. On the plus side, it's got a great silhouette, so even a simple pose ends up looking pretty cool. ^^

On top of that, the plasma cannon on the back is articulated and can be deployed, and the PM rifle's deployed state is recreated by swapping out the mounting piece. The Overboost on the back is also provided as a swap-out part, same as with the Supremes.

Being a variation kit, it doesn't feel drastically new, but I think the real value here is simply that the stylish Unsung has gotten the D-Style treatment. If you're an Armored Core fan, this is one more fun item to add to your build list. :-)
