Genesic Gao Gai Gar

Kit Review

Straight build

Genesic GaoGaiGar has joined the D-Style lineup that previously featured GaoGaiGar, GaoFighGar, and others. While the overall concept is similar to the existing GaoGaiGar-type kits, the design is quite different in various ways. It's a mech that combines 6 units: Galeon, which forms the head and body; Protect/Broken Gao, which form the arms; Spiral/Straight Gao, which form the legs; and finally Gadget Gao, which becomes the wings.

Just like the previous releases, the color separation is well done and partial paint applications are already applied, so even a straight build looks really impressive. The flaming crimson hair is included as a solid, weighty separate part, and the combination/separation and transformation process for all 6 units is reasonably well thought out for such a small kit.

What really stands out is the generous selection of weapon accessories unique to the Genesic — you get the pinwheel-shaped parts for the Protect Shade, the wrist-launched projectile parts for the Broken Magnum, the Will Knife, and the Bolting Driver. The Bolting Driver even lets you swap out the tip with 3 different heads, just like a real screwdriver. On top of that, you also get hand parts for activating and firing the Gadget Phaser and Hell and Heaven, so the accessories are really packed in.

The downside is that the separation/combination gimmicks severely limit the articulation. But since you can't really have it both ways, the fact that it reproduces the design and accessories to this extent is more than acceptable.

It's a kit with a rich set of contents and a striking visual presence, though the ¥4600 price tag is a bit of a stretch. That said, if you're a GaoGaiGar fan, this is definitely one you won't want to miss. :-)
