Starscream

Kit Review

Straight build

Following the commander-class Optimus Prime and Megatron, the grunt mech Starscream has now joined the D-Style lineup. He's supposed to transform into a jet, but given the D-Style focus on small and cute designs, the transformation feature isn't included. You do get a small single-piece jet model thrown in as a substitute though.

Just like the previous kits, the build process is straightforward and the straight build looks pretty great right out of the box. Articulation is limited to around 90 degrees, but it's decent enough to play around with for an SD-style kit. Extra gimmicks include swappable face expressions in 3 varieties and an openable missile hatch on the chest.

The face expression parts are especially fun — the normal expression, smug smirk, and shouting face all have their own distinct personality. Combining the smirk face with the open-hand part lets you pull off a strangely unsettling (?) pose, and between the cocky attitude and the pitiful look of getting pushed around by Megatron, you can recreate some surprisingly spot-on scenes.

All in all, it's a solid D-Style kit that any Transformers fan will enjoy messing around with. It'd be especially fun to set up a little diorama with Megatron like in that last photo above. :-)
