Scopedog Berkoff Squad

Kit Review

Straight build

This is the Scopedog Berkoff Squad kit, released as the fourth D-Style Votoms variation. The basic frame is the same as the existing Scopedog, with changes made to the backpack, weapons, and some of the body armor, plus a Ferzen figure thrown in as a bonus.

The basic structure and characteristics are identical to the previous kits, so there are no new gimmicks to explore, and it doesn't feel all that different overall — making this a variation kit that's a bit lacking in personality. Looking at the parts alone, quite a bit has changed, but with so many similar kits out there, it doesn't really have enough to stand out.

The one saving grace is that the anchor on the backpack can be swapped to a wire-launched version, which does give it some personality. But the extra weapons are recycled from the Scopedog Turbo Custom Byman/Musagi, so there's not much excitement there. The backpack itself is a new sculpt, but its design has a similar silhouette to the Turbo Custom, so again, it doesn't feel all that fresh.

This feels like a D-Style Votoms kit that could've stopped coming out by now — but it seems they're still rolling out variations for the die-hard fans. Either way, the base quality is solid as a D-Style kit, so if you think of it as a kind of fan-service release, there's probably still a decent audience for it. :-)
