Kotobukiya Exoskeleton

Strato Hound

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Strato Hound, released as part of Kotobukiya's original content series "Titanomachia". Just like the previous Gale Houndit's a character with the feel of a futuristic armored warrior. The difference is that while Gale Hound was a male-type, this one comes as a female-type.

The overall format is similar to Gale Hound, but being a female-type, there are some areas of exposed skin. The proportions have a slim and slender feminine feel that's clearly a very different style from the sturdy Gale Hound. Articulation is more average than it looks, so pulling off really dynamic poses is harder than you'd think. Joint strength itself is fine, but the hip joints do tend to pop out when you push the range of motion too far.

For weapons, you get the retractable close-combat composite weapon "Doppeladler", two hand blasters, and a shield. Each can be stored on the back or thighs using joint parts, and they all sport sleek, futuristic designs. On top of that, you can choose between two head options — helmeted or unhelmeted — and the unhelmeted version even has printed eyes.

All in all, this is a solid female-type warrior kit with decent quality, one that wins you over with its beautiful proportions and style rather than flashy articulation. The one sticking point is that it's roughly the size and content of a Figure-rise Standard kit, yet it'll run you ¥7,200. That said, if you're into stylish figure model kits, this is definitely one worth keeping an eye on. :-)
