Kit Review
Straight build
Straight build
This is the Type 32 Model 1 tank — 'Gourai' — released simultaneously with the Frame Architect 001 and the Stilet. Just like the Stilet, it's a kit that swaps out the armor over a shared frame, and it's a robot-form mecha that transforms from a tank. Also like the Stilet, it doesn't actually transform, but the design is quite hefty and stylish.
Overall quality is similar to the Stilet — the snap-fit hold on the outer armor is pretty solid, but some parts of the frame (especially the hip joints) will need a bit of glue to ensure durability. The added tank armor does reduce the range of motion compared to the Stilet, but it still delivers above-average articulation.
With the Stilet, the color separation felt a bit lacking, but the Type 32 Model 1 tank has such a monotone design to begin with that the intended colors come together reasonably well even without much color separation. Despite the molded colors not feeling particularly premium, it gives a better overall color impression than the Stilet.
The caterpillar tracks and gun barrel are small but have a real presence, and the angular design means that even though it looks slightly smaller than the Stilet, it actually feels more imposing. In a lot of ways, it seems to have more going for it compared to the Stilet released alongside it. Anyway, it's already worth a look as a straight build, but with a paint job added, this should make for a seriously stylish tank/robot kit. :-)
