Ever since Kotobukiya established the Frame Arms platform, they've actually tended to use it more for spin-off characters like Border Break and Break Blade rather than original Frame Arms designs — but this time around, we finally get a brand-new, fully original Frame Arms kit. Enter the RF-9 Revenant Eye.
The style is pretty distinctive right off the bat... a large portion of the frame is left exposed with armor only covering certain areas, the feet actually use Blade Rollers, the back is fitted with wings and a round radome-like unit, and you can flip up the face cover to reveal the intricately painted camera eyes underneath — it's a design packed with personality. The paint quality on the eyes in particular is quite impressive, and the molded colors across the whole body have this subtle, almost hand-painted feel to them, making it a kit that looks fantastic even as a straight build. (Though if you look closely, gate marks do catch the eye...)
With so much of the frame left exposed, there's very little to restrict movement, so the frame's articulation really shines through. Joint strength feels like it's somewhere in the middle — not bad, not great. On top of the variable wing gimmick, you can also swap the radome-like structure from the back onto the head in place of the regular head unit, which lets you transform it into something that looks like a completely different machine. Just a heads-up though — when the radome is mounted on the back, it does tend to pop off fairly easily, so you'll want to be careful about keeping it secure.
The rifle comes with a ton of configuration options — the barrel length can be adjusted in three stages, and both the magazine and stock sections can be swapped out in various ways. This means you can strike all kinds of action poses with different rifle setups, and the laser units that plug directly into the arms in place of hands look pretty stylish too.
When it comes to an original design made specifically for a plastic model kit, it has to win people over purely on design and style alone — there's no anime or game backing it up. In that regard, this is easily one of the best kits in the Frame Arms lineup. The unique design, clean color scheme, and wide range of weapon options are more than enough to fire up any mecha fan's passion! Build quality is solid and clean as well, so if the style appeals to you, this is definitely a kit worth giving a shot. :-)
