Kotobukiya Frame Arms

YSX-24 Baselard

Kit Review

Straight build

The latest Frame Arms release, Baselard, is out — and it's got some really clean color separation. Being an original mecha design with no in-universe restrictions, the designer had free rein, and it really shows in the fresh, creative look. ^^

As you can see, yellow verniers called Photon Boosters are scattered all over the body, and the alternating blue and white color separation makes the straight build look pretty sharp. The Frame Architect is starting to show its age a bit, with various durability issues popping up, but if you apply some glue to the frame and reassemble it, you can get it to hold together reasonably well. On the flip side, it does feel like articulation took a bit of a hit in favor of keeping the look.

Even with the limited articulation, the style is good enough that even simple poses look pretty cool. The only downside is that the Thrust Armor is the only weapon included, which feels a little lacking. That said, it's nice that you can split the Thrust Armor into two Segment Rifles, so at least there's that.

All in all, this is a kit whose appeal lies in its clean design that fits the "original design mecha" concept really well — if the style speaks to you, it's definitely worth building for a fun time. :-)
