Kotobukiya Frame Arms

Mingwu

Kit Review

Straight build

Mingwu has been released as a variation of the Frame Arms Hyunmu. The runners and parts structure are 100% identical, and it's a simple color variant kit where only the molded colors have been changed to something darker and heavier. Perhaps feeling a bit guilty about just swapping the colors, they did add newly included waterslide decals. Since all the features are identical to the Hyunmu, for a more detailed breakdown please refer to the Frame Arms Hyunmu Review, and for this review, just checking out the changed molded colors should be plenty.

With the molded colors shifted to darker tones, it gives off a heavier and more imposing look, while still delivering great articulation and decent joint strength. The shoulder joints do still pop out pretty easily during posing, which gets a bit annoying — but as long as you watch out for that, it holds together reasonably well for a Kotobukiya kit.

In my case though, I ran into a molding defect on the round chest section, leaving the inside completely visible. If you're planning to pick up this kit, it might be worth checking for issues like this before opening the bag.

Anyway, it's a kit with a great look and fairly decent build quality, but that steep ¥9000 price tag is still going to be a sticking point. :-)
