XFA-CnB Bergflinker

Kit Review

Straight build

The Bergflinker has been released as the 54th kit in the Frame Arms lineup. It's based on the Frame Arms Ji-Dao/Rei-Dao, with a new head, chest, wing parts, and weapons added on top. It can be converted and reconfigured into two different forms.

The Bergflinker's body configuration is nearly identical to the Rei-Dao, with the main difference being that the shield boosters have moved from the shoulders down to the sides of the legs. On top of that, a new head and chest have been added along with massive wings and a rifle on the shoulders, which gives the overall silhouette a pretty dramatically different feel. The original shield is also now mounted vertically on the back — so just by adding new parts and repositioning existing ones, you get quite a different look.

The Architect inner frame uses a revised version with noticeably solid joint strength, holding whatever pose you put it in without any issues. On top of that, you can attach four different clear parts blades to the rifle. The articulation isn't exceptional, but the kit has great volume, so it looks good even with fairly simple poses.

The transformation into flight mode is way simpler than you'd expect — just fold and extend a few parts and you're done. It's basically just spreading the wings and nose out and laying it face-down, but somehow it comes together as a surprisingly convincing aircraft. The stability after transformation is solid too, and the end result quality is pretty impressive given how straightforward the process is.

You can also swap out some parts and rearrange the body to convert it into the O Cutlass, though it feels less like a transformation and more like a full disassembly and reassembly, so it's not something you'd do on a whim. The waist in particular requires a complete teardown to swap out the core joint part — it's not so much difficult as it is just tedious. Anyway, the resulting silhouette is unmistakably modeled after the Frame Arms Ji-Dao, and aside from the head, chest, and weapons, the rest of the body is identical to the Ji-Dao.

It's a bit of a hassle, but the appeal here is that you get two different robot configurations plus a convincing flight mode from a simple transformation. Stability is also impressive for such a complex-looking kit, so if the style works for you, this is definitely worth recommending. :-)
