Kotobukiya Frame Arms Girl

Jinrai Indigo Ver.

Kit Review

Straight build

The much-talked-about Frame Arms Girl lineup's 8th kit is a variation of Jinrai — the Jinrai Indigo Ver. has arrived. True to its name, the overall color scheme has been shifted to blue, and on top of that it comes with a new head sculpt and new weapons.

The base body is carried over straight from Jinrai, so there's nothing structurally new here — but with the new molded colors, new head shape, and various new weapons, it ends up looking quite different from the original Jinrai. The shurikens that mount on the shoulders and sides of the legs are a particular highlight, coming in both black and clear yellow. Rack those shurikens on and add the new samurai sword on the back, and it's definitely a unique look. It's the same base body, but it gives off such a different vibe that it somehow feels like an especially worthwhile (?) variation.

On the weapons front, all the various blade runners from the original Jinrai are included as-is, and the separately sold MSG No. 6 — "Samurai Sword & Machete" — has been added to the mix. The shurikens are a newly added weapon exclusive to this kit... though it does make me wonder once again whether the Frame Arms Girl lineup exists partly to clear out MSG (Modeling Support Goods) stock ^^;;

Anyway, the fun of mixing and matching the new weapons and striking poses is still very much there, and thanks to a look that's clearly distinct from the original Jinrai, this feels like a variation kit that's well worth building. :-)
