This kit is the Grande Scale Gourai, released as a new entry in the Frame Arms Girl series. As the name suggests, it's a large-scale girl-pla standing about 25cm tall — and seeing it in person, it really does feel bigger than you'd expect. If the original Gouraiis the MG, then this kit is the PG.
That said, aside from the size, the parts layout is pretty much the same as the original Gourai. The color separation around the neck and the ankle joint breakdown are a bit more refined, but overall it feels like a straight-up enlarged copy. And since all the parts are nice and chunky, assembly is surprisingly easy — the build feel is smoother than you'd expect from a Kotobukiya kit, and the parts fit together really well. All in all, it's a satisfying build experience in a lot of ways.
The big concern with a large-scale kit is joint durability, but thankfully the joints are solid across the board. They're actually sturdier than the relatively smaller original Gourai. The one tricky part is that the feet are small like bound feet, so standing it upright can be a bit fiddly — though deploying the caterpillar tracks in the back does make stable standing and posing much easier.
The only weapon included is a single knife, and honestly the lack of accessories is the kit's biggest letdown. The human-style left leg that came with the original Gourai is gone, and so is the bazooka from the original. You do get 8 joint parts and a choice of neck and shoulder joints for either painting or durability, but the overall package still feels a bit bare.
All that said, this kit holds its own significance as the first PG-sized large-scale girl-pla, and the overall quality is pretty impressive. It's a shame the accessories are so sparse, but for a large-scale kit, both the proportions and durability are excellent. The ¥9,900 price tag is steep, but considering the size and quality, it's hard to argue too much. Either way, it's a fun new option for girl-pla fans — and especially if you're into big-scale kits, this one comes highly recommended. :-)
