Kotobukiya Grande Scale

Bellabot

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Bellabot has been released as part of Kotobukiya's large-scale girlpla lineup, the Grande Scale series. It's the serving robot you've probably been seeing all over restaurants lately. True to the Grande Scale name, it comes in at a hefty 18.5cm tall — bigger than your standard girlpla.

But once you open the box, it's really just bigger parts — the overall Bellabotparts breakdown is pretty much the same as the smaller version. The only differences are the silver color separation on the head ring and lower body molding, and the swap-out heads going from 3 to 4. In the end, there are only about 20 parts total, so you can put it together in the blink of an eye. The detail isn't dramatically different either, so it really does feel like they just scaled up the smaller Bellabot.

Everything else carries over too — the rotating wheel gimmick on the bottom and the 10 facial expression stickers. Outside of the rolling wheels and the ability to rearrange the tray combinations inside the body, there isn't a whole lot to write home about with this kit. It's admittedly hard to feel much difference from the original Bellabot just looking at review photos, but in person, it definitely has a solid, imposing presence.

So while there are some added color separation and extra options, it basically feels like an enlarged photocopy of the original Bellabot. The value for money is a bit lacking given what you get, but it seems like a kit anyone — young or old — can enjoy building casually. I'd especially recommend it to anyone who, like me, has always found themselves eyeing these serving robots at restaurants. :-)
