Kotobukiya Frame Arms Girl Hand Scale

Magatsuki

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Magatsuki released as part of the Frame Arms Girl Hand Scale line. True to the concept of the series, it's a miniaturized version of the original Frame Arms Girl Magatsuki shrunk down into a super-compact 7cm plastic model. Small as it is, the kit delivers a surprisingly high level of color separation and articulation.

The overall build is the same as previous entries in the line — you're still trimming and assembling tiny parts just a few millimeters in size. Thanks to Magatsuki's characteristic abundance of armor and weapons, the straight build looks impressively striking despite the small scale. The back can store two Tenkais and two Satsugas each, though due to size limitations, the Satsuga is provided as a handle-swap type rather than a storage type. You can add a separate joint part to the back to mount it on a stand, and due to the design, you'll need the separately sold Flying Base Mini for smooth aerial display.

That said, the design has a lot of bits hanging off it, so parts tend to pop off during posing. Some can be glued down, but quite a few are on articulated sections, so you can't just go sticking everything together. The shoulder armor and side skirts are the main culprits — they come off pretty easily while posing, so you'll need to be careful around those areas. Also worth noting is that with so many moving parts, you'll find yourself fiddling with all sorts of spots just to get a single pose right.

All that said, as a mini figure plastic model with a relatively striking appearance, the visual payoff is solid for its size. It's a shame that the complex design does hurt durability and parts retention a bit. Either way, if you're into small, intricate plastic models, this is definitely a kit worth taking on. :-)
