Kotobukiya Frame Arms

Revanant Eye Aegir

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Frame Arms: Revanant Eye Aegir, a Kotobukiya Shop exclusive. It takes the original Revanant Eye and swaps the molded color to a blue-and-white combination, with newly designed head, shoulders, backpack, feet, and weapons.

The newly redesigned parts give it a sleeker, more elongated look compared to the original — but the problem is that the stability hasn't kept up with that design, making it a real challenge just to keep it standing. T_T It's not an exaggeration to say there's barely a single part from head to toe that locks in firmly, so you'll really want to use glue liberally during assembly. Even then, the various moving parts — especially the shoulder armor and the weapons on the back — don't hold well, which made getting each review photo quite a struggle. ;;

Maybe because of that, even the manual recommends using a Kotobukiya stand just to keep it in a standing pose — and using the stand does make posing noticeably easier. It helps with action poses too, but since parts keep falling off here and there due to weak connections, you still have to stay on your toes the whole time...

There are quite a few new weapons added for the Aegir. The hammer shotgun, which even uses a real metal chain, looks great in terms of detail, but the connection between the shotgun and the hammer is so weak that you basically have to keep them separated. The Slash Edge that mounts on the back has a scabbard that keeps popping off, though thankfully the grip is decent once it's in hand. At the very back of the Slash Edge scabbard there's also a pistol-type weapon called the Hydsis Cannon, and the Ion Laser Cutter — with its handle stored on the side — comes with four clear blade parts in total. The weapon options are quite impressive, and on top of that, all the original Revanant Eye parts are included so you can also build it in the original configuration.

As a Kotobukiya exclusive, it's a solid kit in that it offers more variety than just a simple color variant or a couple of extra weapons. That said, the joint strength of the Frame Architect internals and the various add-on weapons does leave something to be desired. It's more of a display mecha kit to enjoy for its style than a proper action figure kit — but if you go in wanting to appreciate the unique design, it's not a bad time at all. :-)
