Kotobukiya Frame Music Girl

Hatsune Miku

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is Hatsune Miku, released under the title Frame Music Girl. It's a plastic model of the massively popular cyber vocaloid Miku — no introduction needed — done up in the Frame Arms Girl format. Honestly, it's the kind of kit you'd have expected to come out much sooner given how popular the character is.

The basic layout and style are pretty much identical to the existing Frame Arms Girl kits, but the notable difference here is that instead of weapons, you get all sorts of music accessories. Included are two speakers with stands, a microphone with a mic stand, and a waist-mounted speaker. Using these accessories, you can set up all kinds of concert performance scenes in various poses.

The body's articulation is about average, but the joint strength is solid enough that you don't really need to worry about poses holding. That said, the hip joint slide gimmick — added to extend the thigh range of motion — has a bit of a loose feel to it, and lowering the legs can sometimes cause the whole joint to pull right out, so you'll want to be careful when posing.

In terms of looks and proportions, it does feel a bit stiff compared to the various figures that have been released. But then again, Miku as a character comes in so many different shapes and styles that everyone's visual take is different anyway — so I think you just have to accept that this is what Miku looks like as a plastic model.

The overall build quality is pretty clean (at least way better than Bandai's girlplas...), so if you're a fan of the Miku character, this seems like a kit well worth picking up. :-)
