Kit Review

The A.I.S, the mech from Sega's game "Phantasy Star Online 2," has been released as a 1/72 scale model kit. Various female characters from this game have been kitted before, but this is actually the first time one of the game's mechs has gotten the plastic model treatment.
First off, being 1/72 scale means it comes out very small. As you can see from the size comparison photos above, it's noticeably smaller than your typical HG Gunpla — small enough to feel almost cute and adorable. The part count isn't high, so you can put it together pretty quickly.
It's small, but true to Kotobukiya form, the detail is pulled off nicely and it has a solid sense of depth. Joint strength is sturdy, but the articulation isn't great, so posing fun is a bit lacking. Weapons-wise, you get three options: the Solid Vulcan, Photon Blaster, and Photon Sabre. The combination gimmick of the Solid Vulcan and Photon Blaster is included, as is the ability to store the Photon Sabre on the body. On top of that, there's also a cockpit hatch open gimmick on the back and a Booster deployment gimmick.
Overall build quality is pretty clean aside from the frustrating articulation — but the issue is the price tag of ¥5,500 relative to what you get and how small it is. Value-for-money wise, this is honestly one of the worst among Kotobukiya kits. The kit itself is decent enough, but unless you're a pretty die-hard Phantasy Star Online fan, it's going to be a tough sell. :-)
