Orbital Maneuver

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Orbital Maneuver from the Gigantic Arms series, and it's a companion kit released alongside the Strike Serpent. At its core it's a hover-type vehicle sized just right for carrying a Frame Arms Girl — but it also transforms into a leg for building the Ultimate Guardian together with other kits.

Once assembled, you'll be surprised by how much bigger it is than expected — around 30cm long with a large, weighty presence. Beyond the handle, footrest, and large Booster, there aren't many other moving parts or gimmicks. Like the Strike Serpent, you can disassemble the main body and reconfigure it into a large leg, and you can build it as either the left or right leg.

So the idea is: use two of this kit to make both legs, two Strike Serpents to make both arms, and two separately sold MSG Overed Manipulators to make the hands, then combine everything onto the Order Cradle to complete the massive Ultimate Guardian. The finished mech clears an incredible 50cm — it makes even Mega Size Gunpla look small, let alone PG kits. That said, the polycaps hold everything together firmly, so durability should be better than you'd expect. In my case I don't own all the pieces, so I wasn't able to put together the complete form for this review. (Kotobukiya's official websitefor the completed build gallery)

To build the Ultimate Guardian, you'll need the Gigantic Arms Order Cradle (¥8500), Strike Serpent (¥5200 x2), Orbital Maneuver (¥5500 x2), and Overed Manipulator (¥1200 x2) — which adds up to a whopping ¥32,300, and that's probably the biggest hurdle of all.

Even so, the appeal of an ultra-large robot model kit this rare is hard to deny. Build quality is pretty decent too, so if you're after something different and don't mind spending a bit more, I'd say go for it. :-)
