Dayakkaiser

Kit Review

Coming soon.

The 3rd entry in the Plain Model series is Dayakkaiser. Just like King Kittan, it's a mech that the surface-dwelling humans captured from the Beastmen, and since a character named Dayakka pilots it, it got the name Dayakkaiser.

First off, it's a mech design with a unique look that rivals King Kittan — the body is shaped like one giant head, with a long cannon and magazine mounted on top. The legs are very short and the arms are long, so depending on how you look at it, the design can seem pretty unbalanced... but you could definitely call it wildly distinctive. :-)

Given the nature of its shape, there isn't much in the way of articulation, but just like King Kittan, this is a kit that sells itself purely on its looks without needing much movement. The Plain Model series tends to lean that way in general — it's more of a standing figure than an action figure. Like King Kittan and Gurren Lagann, the low part count means it goes together easily, quickly, and without any fuss... but maybe because the part count is a bit *too* low, it feels just a little less satisfying to build than King Kittan or Gurren Lagann.

Anyway, the charm of the Gurren Lagann series lies in these unique mech designs, and Dayakkaiser is one of those that sits right at the top of that uniqueness. For anyone who's been feeling burned out on building, this might just be a decent cure for what ails you.. ^^;
