Kotobukiya Hexa Gear

Governor Light Armor Type: Rose

Kit Review

Straight build

Kotobukiya's ambitious Hexa Gear series has added a new female combat trooper — the Governor Light Armor Type: Rose. Compared to the previous releases, she sports a lighter armor form with reduced bulk, and she's a female character with a long ponytail.

The basic configuration is pretty much the same as the previous Pawn A1 and Parafan Sentinel, but interestingly, additional parts are included where the weapons and hands are molded together as one. There are two weapons — a light armor blade and a gun knife — and on top of that, parts with each weapon already combined with a hand are included as well, so you're essentially getting them twice.

In terms of articulation, the limbs don't move quite as freely as the male combat troopers from the previous releases, but perhaps due to the feminine body lines, the poses actually look more natural. The joint strength is nice and stiff, so poses hold well, and all in all it's a lot of fun to experiment with different poses.

The long ponytail can be swapped out for a short tied-up hairstyle, and using the joint parts, the light armor blade can be mounted on the back at 2 different angles. The gun knife can be holstered on the side of the thigh, and the fit there is solid — it actually feels like an improvement over the male combat troopers from the previous releases.

Anyway, the size is still pretty small for the price, but despite the more limited articulation, posing is actually more fun — that's a definite plus. Being a female character, this kit will probably be more popular than the bulkier male combat trooper kits. :-)
