V-Thor Air Assault "Thunderstruck"

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the V-Thor Air Assault "Thunderstruck", released as part of the Hexa Gear series. It's based on the previously released V-Thorwith a changed molded color and newly added parts. The armor has gotten thicker and a whole bunch of massive weapons have been added, giving it a much bigger overall presence.

First thing you'll notice after building it is just how massive it is — it takes up even more space than an MG Sazabi, and it's got a real commanding presence. Then you'll be surprised a second time by how solid and sturdy it feels. Despite the weight and size, the joint strength is dialed in nicely, so there's no looseness or wobble when standing or posing. And since it's built on the V-Thor base, the articulation is excellent too, letting you pull off all kinds of dynamic poses. The one downside is that it's quite heavy, so putting it on a stand can feel a little risky.

For weapons, you get the High-Speed Multi-Barrel Gatling combined with a shield, and the Charged Tactical Twin Blade that stretches out to a whopping 40cm when fully extended. On the back sits a large flight module fitted with big wings that take up quite a bit of space when spread out. It also carries four small drones that can be detached and deployed in a launched display. Six plasma blade effect parts are included as well, for attaching to the small drones or the knees.

You can also combine the shield and High-Speed Multi-Barrel Gatling with the large flight module to form a large ground-attack drone — and every single piece is impressively large. On top of that, just like the V-Thor, there's a gimmick where you can open the cockpit and seat a Governor inside.

The V-Thor itself was already a fantastic mecha model kit with impressive bulk, great articulation, and solid joint strength. The Thunderstruck takes all of that and cranks the volume up even further, showing off an even beefier frame and flashier look. This is one I'd highly recommend to anyone who loves big, eye-catching kits — and the rock-solid durability given its size and weight is definitely worth calling out. :-)
