Kit Review

The Kotobukiya Hoihoi-san that was released in 2009 to great reception is now back as the New Edition. Just from the name, it sounded like a renewed, upgraded kit with changes all around — but once you actually open the box, it turns out to be more of a repackage that simply bundles the original Hoihoi-san together with the cradle.
The molded colors of the Hoihoi-san body itself are the same as the original version, but the New Edition goes for a painted look by applying a matte finish to the surfaces overall. It does feel a little cleaner without the reflective sheen, but honestly it's hard to notice much of a difference from the original. As for the Hoihoi-san cradle that was sold separately back in 2010, it's included here completely unchanged. So yeah, there are zero added or changed parts — this isn't even a color variant, it's more of a "surface treatment variant" (?) kit.
Hoihoi-san is fundamentally a figure model kit with great sculpting, and even though it's a kit from 11 years ago, the build experience still holds up pretty well. Articulation and joint strength are solid, and the magnetic cradle is still a fun accessory. That said, if you were hoping for a fully renewed Hoihoi-san, you're likely to be disappointed. But given that Kotobukiya isn't exactly known for frequent reprints, there are probably plenty of people who are just happy to see it back in any form. If you've been interested in Hoihoi-san but haven't built her yet, this is still worth recommending — she's as cute and fun as ever. :-)
